Benefits of Aluminium as a Door
Material
Posted Wednesday 28th October 2009
Obviously the immediate
benefit of aluminium compared to another material such
as uPVC is brute ridged strength. You do have to look
after metals a little, to make sure they don’t rust –
however what you get in return is immeasurable strength.
Security is a much higher priority for doors than for
windows, and whilst arguably uPVC is a better security
measure for windows, aluminium is fairly unbeatable as
far as door-options go!
As far as style is
concerned, particularly for a modern home, aluminium is
very stylish. What aluminium really boasts for doors is
a mixture of style and strength. You can have a slimline
profiled door and it will still be strong, compared to a
timber door of the same dimensions in terms of depth
(which would be easily broken through during an accident
or a break-in). These doors can come in a variety of
finished styles and colours – and should you desire, you
can even have your aluminium door finished with
authentic wood grain foils.
Aluminium is very easy to
maintain and clean, far easier than timber. It is rust
resistant to a point and will not warp or rust unlike
wood. As far as doors go aluminium is definitely the
best option you have available to you. It offers the
best available compromise between strength and ease of
maintaining. Doors made of uPVC would not be as
resistant as aluminium doors, not by a long shot.
Aluminium itself is a
versatile and incredibly strong material. It is fairly
cost effective and interesting fact here; it is the most
abundant metal to be found in our Earth’s crust. Due to
aluminiums’ low density it has a ‘remarkable’ ability to
halt corrosion or rusting in its tracks (though rust can
still get a foothold in more extreme conditions).
In fact aluminium is so
incredibly tough that it is known to be vital to the
global aerospace industry. That’s right; this tough
cookie helps keep planes and even space shuttles in the
air when they are being pushed to their limits by forces
which would otherwise tear them asunder in our own
Earth’s atmosphere. Doesn’t this sound like the stuff
you want your doors to be made of? Since it’s already
been mentioned that aluminium is very cost effective;
can you afford not to have your home protected by this
stuff?
Aluminium is also
non-magnetic, unlike steel or iron. Aluminium differs
from its two main counterpart metals in other ways,
though; for instance aluminium is much lighter-weight.
This means you can rely on the strength of an aluminium
door without breaking your back opening and closing it.
There is no safer or more
cost effective material for your household doors than
plentiful, wonderful aluminium!
